United for Warm Homes Day of Action

November 18th was the day when groups across the country were encouraged to take action in support of this important Friends of the Earth campaign.

Harborough Climate Action joined with groups from across Leicestershire to support an event organised by Climate Action Leicester and Leicestershire at the Highfields Community Centre in Leicester.

It was an excellent day calling for the government to fund a street by street emergency home insulation programme starting in areas with the greatest need. This would tackle both fuel poverty AND climate change by reducing people's energy needs and carbon footprints.

Over 150 people and 20 groups took part on the day, and many more beforehand making squares and putting the quilt together (and baking plant based cakes - there was a lot of enjoyment of those cakes on the day!).

There was coverage on BBC East Midlands Today and ITV Central News, many politicians were lobbied (both in person and online), and now we have some excellent photos and a quilt for display. The plan is now to display the quilt in suitable places across the county. We have already made contact with Market Harborough Library and Museum to start the ball rolling.
