We Need Your Blogs!

Updated: Jun 9, 2021

We'd love to hear what you think about anything to do with sustainability. Something in the news caught your eye? Something you would like suggestions on? Some initiative you would like to get started in Market Harborough? Something you have seen that really annoys you? Or some helpful tips you would like to share. Then why not write us a blog?

Any Sustainable Harborough Community Member can write a blog for this website, and it's really easy.

  • Send us an e.mail at info@sustainableharboroughcommunity.co.uk, requesting permission to become blogger

  • You will receive an e.mail back from us once the necessary permissions have been set up (this may take a day or two)

  • Click on the 'login' logo at the top right hand corner of any page on the website

  • This will take you to the Join Us Page, where you will see a button at the bottom that says 'Log In'

  • Choose how you would like to log in - with Facebook, Google or your e,mail account, then enter your password

  • You will then be taken to your SHC account

  • Choose the My Drafts option, and then you can start creating a new blog, or edit a blog you have previously drafted

  • Write your blog, and add an image if you have one, by clicking on the little camera icon at the bottom of the page

  • Then either save your blog to come back to later or press 'Publish'

  • Your blog will then need to be approved by our Administrator which should happen within 24 hours.

  • Your blog will then appear on the blog section of the SHC website

Some advice about writing blogs

  • The blog can be long or short, but needs to be about something relating to Sustainability

  • Check your facts, and quote sources where relevant

  • Add an image to make the blog more attractive

  • Follow the SHC Code of conduct

    • The working environment (including our online presence and comments on our website) shall be:

a) free from bullying, harassment, victimisation or unlawful discrimination b) promote dignity and respect for all, and ensure that individual differences and contributions are recognised and valued c) take seriously any complaints about such behaviours

  • Furthermore, in the website comments, we request that Members keep comments reasonably on topic and show good manners; Members should not swear; Members should remember that SHC aims to adopt an attitude of hope rather than despair and should recognise that we are all approaching positive climate action from different positions therefore we must show respect and consideration for each other's circumstances.

  • SHC reserves the right to remove inappropriate or offensive blogs, and/or to remove your permission to be a blogger

Some advice about use of images

  • Copyright laws relating to use of images are very strict, and are there to ensure that images are not used publicly without the knowledge and permission of the person who created the image

  • It may be easy to do, but you are not allowed to just copy any image you find on the internet and use it yourself

  • If you can, use an image that you have created yourself

  • Or, one created by someone you know who has given you permission to use it

  • Or go to a site that offers images that are copyright free (such as Pixabay or Pexels) and read the small print before downloading

  • If you use an image that is not copyright free, you may be liable for fines of several hundreds of pounds
