Harborough Big Green Week - Focus on Food and Drink

This year Harborough Big Green Week (Sept 24th - Oct 1st) overlaps with British Food Fortnight (Sept 20th - Oct 2nd), and so there will be a range of events going on that promote eating well, reducing food waste and celebrating all the great local growers and producers we have in the area.

The Eco Village will be the hub for our foodie events, with pop up stalls and lots of information available throughout the week so why not drop in at any time, to check them out, and grab a coffee and a bite to eat in their cafe.

There will also be a number of specific events at the Eco Village:

Saturday 24th September, 10am - 4pm

Launch event for Harborough Big Green Week, including the launch of 'Harborough Community Fridge' and 'Grow to Give initiatives'. These initiatives both focus on ensuring that surplus food from individuals and businesses does not go to waste, but gets recirculated back out into the community, and most importantly, those suffering from food poverty.

Food made from local produce will be available in the cafe.

Thursday September 29th, 6pm - 7.30pm

Food Waste - don't just throw it away! An event that will give advice on how to get something beneficial from food waste, rather than just throwing it in the bin. Attendees will learn how to grow new produce from leftover scraps, and also how to generate compost from their waste. Practical demonstrations and information to take away.

The Pizza Van will be there as usual, along with Duncan Murray's bar

Saturday October 1st, all day

Kitchen Takeover. Chef Ton van der Meen will be taking over the Eco Village kitchen, and creating a range of healthy, tasty dishes using local produce.

There will also be foodie events going on beyond the Eco Village

  • Cafe @ Welland Park - will have special menu items every day featuring vegetarian and vegan menus, made from fresh local produce

  • FarrinHeight Foods will be serving a range of delicious vegan street food during Great Big Green Saturday in The Square on Oct 1st

  • The Co-op Store in The Commons, will have a special in-store display all week, with promotions of Fairtrade, organic and British produce, information about their soft plastics recycling scheme, free Morsbags available, and a display of entries to the SHC Children's Poster Competition.

Lots to tuck into!
