Harborough Big Green Week - Cycling and Walking

HBGW is all about helping people to reduce their carbon footprint, and one of the key things we all need to try and do is to use the car less, walk and cycle more, and generally get more active. So we have a few events lined up during the week which will help you do just that.

U3A Cycle Ride, Friday 30th, September

An easy route of about 10 miles, starting at the Old Grammar Achool. Mostly on the flat, with a coffee stop on the return leg. Over 18s only.

Big Green Cycle Ride, Saturday Oct 1st, 10am

A gentle ride around the gorgeous green Leicestershire countryside, we'll be riding on quiet country lanes with little traffic. In town we stay as a group and "manage" the traffic together.

We'll stop for breathers and drinks along the way as we need them. About half way into the ride we'll stop for coffee at Kelmarsh Hall.

You must wear a helmet on this ride. It's a good idea to bring a water bottle and money for refreshments.

Mini Green Cycle Ride, Saturday Oct 1st, 2.30pm

Especially for novice or nervous cyclists, this sustainable, fun ride is designed to be a great introduction to cycling. It will help you burn calories not fossil fuels and build your confidence of a bike.

Once out of town, we'll be on very quiet country lanes with little traffic. In Harborough, we'll stay together as a group to manage the traffic and if necessary, walk across busy roads.

We'll stop along the way as often as we need to for a breather and a drink. There will be the opportunity to enjoy a drink together at the end of the ride.

You must wear a helmet on this ride. It's also a good idea to bring a water bottle and some money.

U3A Cycle Ride, Saturday Oct 1st, 9.30am

Starting in The Square, this will be a short ride along the Brampton Valley Way, with a stop for refreshments before returning to Market Harborough. Over 18s only

Welland Valley Wheelers Club Run, Sunday Oct 2nd, 9.15am

Riders are normally split into 4 groups of varying ability. All club runs have a ride leader who sets the pace and picks a route normally between 2hrs15mins and 2hrs 45mins, ending up at the cafe in Welland Park No-one is ever dropped on a club run or left to fend for themselves for any reason.

Junior Green Parkrun

Normal Junior Park Run round Welland Park, but runners are asked to wear something green to help celebrate HBGW.

Cycle Racks

A number of temporary bike racks will be placed round the town centre to make it easier for you to come along to our events by bike.
