This sub-group of Sustainable Harborough Community is now well and truly 'active', with regular meetings taking place, and lots of ideas for actions we want to get under way. We will soon have our own page on the SHC website, where you will be able to keep up to date with our plans and events, but in the meantime, here is an update to whet your appetite!
We have already completed our first action, which was to compile a response to HDC on their proposed Climate Action Plan. This will shortly be sent to the HDC Climate Action Working Group, headed up by Councillor Jonathan Bateman, and we have been assured it will be fed into their thinking over the coming weeks. We will be sharing our response on the SHC website soon, so anyone that is interested can see what we had to say. We obviously want to be supportive of the council in this project, and input to it in any way we can. But we also want to make sure that the Climate Action Plan they develop is actually fit for purpose, and will set out the challenging but necessary actions and targets needed to transform Market Harborough District into a zero carbon space by 2030.
HDC are also holding a 'Climate Emergency Action Plan Consultation Workshop' on July 28th. Several members of our Climate Action Group and the wider Sustainable Harborough Community will be attending, and we will let you know how it went, and what will happen next in a future update.
You may not know it, but the Market Harborough CAG is actually part of the Friends of the Earth Climate Action Group network, which means we have access to support and resources from them. We are very excited to announce that a representative from FoE will be joining our zoom meeting on Monday August 9th, 6pm - 7pm. Richard Dyer will be helping us to think through how we can get more engaged with HDC, and what we should be trying to ensure gets included in their Action Plan. Also, how we can try and get more people involved with the activities of our local Climate Action Group. The meeting will be open to all Sustainable Harborough Members, so do let us know if you would like to join us, and we'll send you the zoom link
The MH Climate Action Group meets by zoom every Monday from 6pm - 7pm, and new members are always welcome. Click on this link if you would like to join us.
