Tree Planting in Great Bowden
Our volunteers planted 5000 tree whips on this site in January and hope to plant another 2500 on Saturday 25 February. That's a total of about 1.5 kilometers of a new fruit and nut hedge for wildlife as a wonderful long forest connecting existing hedges.

About the Event
Massive thanks to Leicestershire County Council for the hedge whips and FCC for their carpark near the A6 access to Welham lane (no through road). Lookout for the banners on your left by the car park entrance. A shuttle bus is being arranged to provide easy access to this isolated site near the Langton Brook as there is almost no space for parking. Please bring a spade and your refereshments. It's Harborough Woodland Community Volunteers third birthday this month.
Our volunteers planted 5000 tree whips on this site in January and hope to plant another 2500 on Saturday 25 February. That's a total of about 1.5 kilometers of a new fruit and nut hedge for wildlife as a wonderful long forest connecting existing hedges. The roots and soil in one meter of mature hedge act as a sponge and can adsorb and slowly release about 3 to 5 tonnes or cubic metres or 3,000 to 5,000 litres of water (ref hedgelink.org.uk) so reduce flash flood risk during a storm. 1.5km is approximately equivalent to 4500 to 7500 cubic meters of temporary storage capacity.
